Position overview

Solmax is seeking a dynamic and experienced Sustainability Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will lead our sustainability initiatives, focusing on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects. This role involves preparing a sustainability strategy and roadmap to improve all ESG pillars and initiating reporting according to the CSRD. The Sustainability Manager will collaborate closely with various functions across the organization, driving them towards common sustainability goals and understanding the financial impacts of sustainability initiatives. The Sustainability Manager role, reporting to Global Vice-President, Commercial Excellence, is pivotal in steering our company towards a sustainable and responsible future. This position aligns our operations with sustainable principles and strengthens our competitive edge and resilience. It can enhance brand reputation, cost efficiencies, and stakeholder engagement, driving long-term success in a rapidly evolving world.

Key responsibilities

  • Organize and Lead ESG Committees: Establish and maintain ESG committees to drive sustainability initiatives. Facilitate regular meetings and ensure effective communication among committee members.

  • Start and Manage the CSRD Reporting Standard: Develop and implement the CSRD reporting framework, including data collection, analysis, and preparation of compliance reports. Ensure timely and accurate reporting to regulatory bodies and stakeholders.

  • Develop and Implement Action Plans: Create comprehensive action plans to minimize environmental impact and enhance social and governance policies. Set and achieve specific sustainability targets, such as reducing carbon emissions by 20% within the first two years. Monitor progress and adjust plans as necessary to achieve sustainability targets.

  • Build ESG Strategy and Roadmap: Develop a long-term ESG strategy that aligns with the company’s mission and goals. Create a detailed roadmap for implementing the ESG strategy, including timelines, milestones, and key performance indicators (KPIs). Ensure the strategy and roadmap are communicated effectively across the organization and integrated into overall business planning.

  • Project Management: Lead sustainability projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely and successful execution. Coordinate with different functions, including operations, finance, marketing, and HR, to achieve ESG objectives.

  • Collaboration with C-Suite and External Consultants: Work closely with senior executives to integrate sustainability into business strategy. Engage with external consultants to enhance sustainability practices and reporting.

  • Driving Change Within the Organization: Lead efforts to embed sustainability into the corporate culture and everyday business practices. Advocate for and implement sustainability initiatives that drive organizational change and innovation.

  • Understanding Financial Impacts: Assess and communicate the financial implications of sustainability initiatives to senior management. Develop business cases for sustainability projects, demonstrating cost savings, risk mitigation, and value creation.

  • Resilience and Adaptability: Demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges and changes in the ESG landscape. Adapt strategies and approaches to align with evolving regulatory and market demands.

Qualifications and skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree, A Master’s degree is preferred, ideally focusing on sustainability and ESG within a business environment.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in sustainability, ESG, or related fields.

  • Proven track record of conducting double materiality analysis and developing emission reduction strategies or equivalent

  • Experience in building and implementing ESG strategies and roadmaps.

  • Project management experience, particularly in driving cross-functional initiatives within a multinational company.

  • Experience working with senior executives and external consultants.

  • Good understanding of CSRD requirements OR other ESG frameworks such as SASB, SBTi or GRI. Excellent project management, organizational, and presentation skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated with a proactive approach to achieving sustainability goals. Resilient and adaptable in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Ability to understand and communicate the financial impacts of sustainability initiatives.
