Position overview

Under the direction of the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for promoting a culture of continuous improvement through data analysis and the use of Lean tools and projects. This position assists in coaching others relating to safety, quality, and unit cost goals in a continuous improvement environment. The position demonstrates a cooperative team player approach in working with and alongside other leaders and employees while providing planning, direction and guidance on Lean objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Manages and leads continuous process improvement efforts for the plant facility. This includes manufacturing productivity, machine efficiency, production throughput and improved unit costs.

  • Coordinates lean activities for the facility, including planning and execution of Six Sigma tools, Value Stream Analysis, RIEs, follow up, and sustainment.

  • Maintains daily, weekly and monthly metrics (KPI) reporting.

  • Manages and reports facility cost improvement program.

  • Acts as a catalyst to bring about improvements in all processes focusing on cost reduction and driving positive core metrics.

  • Identifies and communicates suggestions for work improvements.

  • Improves existing processes to increase output and yields and improves product quality.

  • Demonstrates a sound balance between quality and quantity of work while maintaining a sense of urgency toward completion

Qualifications and skills

  • High School Graduate or GED is required

  • Participation in RIE/Kaizen or Lean manufacturing techniques preferred; experience in continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen events, 6S, 3P, Kanban, value stream and process mapping is preferred.

  • Understanding of plant processes; how activity on the floor affects plant performance

  • Experience with full MS Suite of tools including Windows, Word, Excel, Powerpoint required; experience with SAP R/3 SAP BW preferred

  • excellent communications, interpersonal skills, and the ability to foster team success and accomplish the project objectives
