Position Overview
This position exists to manage Quality Assurance for Geosynthetic products manufactured at Solmax Houston manufacturing facility that includes Geomembrane and Geocomposite. This role is intended to supervise and coordinate activities of lab staff engaged in performing lab quality testing and reporting as per GAI-LAP (Geosynthetic Institute - Laboratory Accreditation Program) and internal Solmax requirements. The Quality Manager shall ultimately be accountable for the effectiveness of the ISO Quality 9001:2015 management system for the facility.
Key responsibilities
Supervise and direct laboratory staff in standard test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of raw and finished materials. Raw material like Resin, Masterbatch for extrusion process and finished material like Geomembrane & Geocomposite rolls made by blow extrusion.
Monitor and analyze test information to assist in maintaining measuring instruments and test equipment used in the Quality Lab for testing materials as per ASTM procedures.
Monitor quality of manufactured products and review roll test data for specificity conformance.
Develop and enforce lab Standard Operating Procedures or Work Instructions to carry out product testing as per ASTM procedures in the internal Quality Lab.
Coordinate job specific testing requirements with 3rd party testing firms.
Manage and maintain lab testing for Resin (Polyethylene), Geosynthetic products like Geomembrane and Geocomposite products reporting, and procedures with ISO program requirements. Ensure the QA/QC laboratory is in compliance with GAI-LAP Proficiency Program.
Participate in ASTM standard review and committees.
Identify quality problems or areas for improvement and recommend solutions like Quality defects in manufacturing process of Geosynthetic products, Customer complaint analysis, Quality system issues related to ISO 9001:2015 and Issues related instrument Calibration.
Qualifications and skills
Bachelor’s degree.
Min 4 years experience in lab or manufacturing environment.
Good communications skills.
Experience in Minitab, MS Office, ERP (Dynamics).
Knowledge of Six Sigma tools and techniques.
